From 9th grade to the next step, we help California families make a real plan, in the language they think in, across every postsecondary option that exists.
Book a Free CallMost college advising treats four-year universities as the only real outcome and everything else as a fallback. We do not work that way. Community college, trade programs, apprenticeships, military service, and direct workforce entry are real pathways with real financial aid, real career ladders, and real outcomes. Our job is to help your family understand which options actually fit your student, and build a plan that works.
All of our advising is available in English and Spanish. Not translated, not outsourced to a Spanish-language supplement. The same advisor, in both languages, for as long as it takes.
Career Direction
Career exploration using California's CCGI platform, interest inventories, and real labor market data for California. We help students connect what they are good at and what they care about to actual career pathways, before they start building a college list.
College Planning
We audit your student's A-G completion progress, map out the remaining course sequence, and build a college list calibrated to their goals, grades, and California residency status. Application strategy covers personal statements, activity lists, and deadline management across UC, CSU, community college, and private campuses.
Financial Aid
We walk families through the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application (CADAA for AB 540-eligible students), help interpret financial aid award letters, and identify Cal Grant eligibility, institutional grants, and outside scholarships. Financial aid advising is included in every engagement, not sold as an add-on.
We were completely lost before we found Empowered Admissions. Now we have a plan we actually understand, and our son is excited about his options.

The bilingual support made all the difference for our family. For the first time, we felt like someone was truly listening.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is for U.S. citizens and eligible noncitizens. The California Dream Act Application (CADAA) is for students who are undocumented or have DACA status and meet the AB 540 criteria for California residency. Both applications open October 1 each year. Students who complete CADAA are eligible for the Cal Grant, the California College Promise Grant, and institutional scholarships at California colleges, even without access to federal aid.
The A-G requirements are 15 year-long high school courses across seven subject areas that California students must complete with a C or better to be eligible for UC or CSU admission. The seven areas are History and Social Science, English, Mathematics, Laboratory Science, Language Other Than English, Visual and Performing Arts, and a College-Preparatory Elective. Students who do not complete A-G remain eligible for California Community Colleges, which have open enrollment.
CaliforniaColleges.edu is the free, state-funded college and career planning platform for all California public school students. Every student has a free account linked through their school. Students use it to explore careers, track A-G progress, research colleges, manage application deadlines, and access scholarships. We use CCGI as a core tool in every advising engagement and can help families activate their student's account and make it work.
Ideally, 9th grade. That is when course choices start determining A-G eligibility and CTE pathway options. Key milestones: 9th grade, set up CCGI and build a course plan; 10th grade, PSAT and career exploration; 11th grade, SAT or ACT, college list development; 12th grade, applications, FAFSA or Dream Act, and scholarships. Starting early significantly expands your student's options. That said, it is never too late to make a plan, and we work with families at every stage including seniors and transfer students.
California students have access to nine UC undergraduate campuses, 23 CSU campuses, 116 California Community Colleges, independent colleges and universities, CTE certificate and apprenticeship programs, military service, and direct workforce entry. All pathways have financial aid options. Community colleges offer both transfer pathways through the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) program and terminal certificates and degrees with direct career entry.
